Lecture 1: Module Briefing
03.04.19 (Week 1)

Ms. Jinchi introduced that this module will be different from any other modules that we have, because this module we are going to do a lot of reading and writing, research precisely.

As written in this slides, we have to start the research by analyse ourself. Analyse our interest and identify it as one of the four specialisations majority. Before conducting this research, we have to be sure about the objectives that we would like to achieve so it'll help us to go through the research.

This week, we were lectured about problem statement, research question, research objective thoroughly to get us build our research.

Lecture 3: Developing Research Question

Research question is initial step that get us started our research, thus we have to consider our topic properly before making one. It is a guide to our expected outcome because without it we can't have a hypothesis. No hypothesis mean we don't have a way to study our research. We have to specify the investigation, set boundaries, and provides direction.

Week 2

After explaining a little bit about my topic and showed my research problem to Ms. Jinchi, she said that my topic is so general and I have to specify what product that is advertised. She also commented that I have to cite for the data I gathered and put in my problem statement, she added that my first sentence for second paragraph is not make sense, if I quoted it from someone else I have to cite as well, but I didn't quoted it so I decide to delete that part. I'm glad she said my problem statement is well written and it's good that I read on how to write problem statement. For my hypothesis, she said it's a good hypothesis and I can continue with my research.

Week 3

She said that I didn't clearly state about specifically what food I would like to research. Rationally food advertisement is matched to the product advertised so it will be a bit hard to put colour trend in this topic. So, she suggest me to talk about consumers loyalty and I have to look forward on what food product that apply colour trend on their advertisement and be specific about it.

Week 4

Miss Jinchi said that my problem statement is much better after I changed the topic from advertising to product packaging but my objectives for this research is a bit weak. She said that what I stated as my objectives is not so related to design field as I went deeper on public interest and sales. And what I want to obtain isn't very clear to design field. She told me that trend that I would like to research about is weak as well as the colour topic. She suggested me to go through colour as a brand identity through packaging design, and also she showed me some existing research on colour and multicultural packaging.
