PROJECTS
Project 1: Proposal
We were briefed that in this module, we will be working on a team to do an exploration project. We were directed to focus on projects that revolve around the theme of new normal. After a discussion among my group member, Chiquita, Maydeline and I, we decided to explore 2D animation as we think we would really learn a lot by exploring this together that none of us specialised at.
We consulted with the lecturers and after some thought, we decided to bring our animation to the area of cartoon instead of an infographic video and based on researches on them, we fixed our target audience to children from age 6 to 12.
Around the first 3 weeks, we worked on the characterization and several storylines and we had fun while we were doing it. We also had come up with a mood board by this week. But the feedback we got prompted us to go to the other direction, which is silent animation as too much dialogue would take longer time to send the messages and we would be needing more time to record the voiceovers. We were quite confused but thankfully we managed.
Moodboard |
Here's our first and rough ideation or storyboard of the silent cartoon animation;
This storyboard later is perfected together in terms of the drawing, and some adjustment on the storylines. The full storyboard video can be accessed here.
Here's our animation project proposal:
Project 2: Development
Developing this project, we started with constructing a project timeline to make sure our progress is organised. We divided tasks for each member and set a deadline for each task so that our progress and the work pass could flow nicely.
We finalised our character sketches and bring them to be digitalised in the Adobe Illustrator,
Characters |
Then we also built the environment around these characters such as their house and its interior. Also some more assets such as masks, tv, phone, spray can, etc.
Environments |
Asset: TV & Chicken the presenter |
Asset: Spray Can |
Then we compiled everything according to the scenes they belong to.
And here comes the scary part of this project, the animation...
Thankfully it wasn't as scary as we had made it to seem and I think we all agree to say that we actually had real fun animating these puppies to life. After we had finished animating all the scenes, we included sound effects to enhance and dramatise the whole animation. Shoutout to Chiquita and Ms Anis for the lovely voiceovers.
Project 3: 2D Cartoon
Here's our final presentation slides:

REFLECTION
I remember when we decided to explore animation that all of us are very anxious and uncertain about this project. I felt quite left out knowing the other groups were doing websites, AR and all those cool stuff that they proposed and executed so well. I'm glad that this exploration project is done in a team and I am very thankful for my teammates that we were able to communicate and help each other throughout this project. It was so much fun exploring something new and especially so when you have friends who are exploring alongside you. And great lecturers by your side.
